Joy Mahaffey was born in Georgia. Following her parent's divorce, she moved with her mother to Florida when she was three.
Every summer and winter was spent visting her father back in
Georgia, so she considers herself to have experienced the best of both states. A little bit country and a little bit city.
Joy has always been a creative artist taking dance at the age of 5, drama classes at 11, and learning drums at 12. Her passion for the arts became even clearer in high school when she was taking drama and percussion classes and was able to perform in the musical FAME as the lead drummer. She also discovered a love for fitness during those years and took weight training with the football team all four years. However it was her love of drumming that brought her out to Los Angeles so that she could attend Musician's Institute of Technology - Percussion Institute. After playing in numerous bands around Los Angeles, she finally picked up a guitar learned and learned how to sing, becoming a singer-songwriter.
Soon after she started interning for one of Herby Hancock’s companies as a sound engineer. A year later she created her own home studio and recorded her first EP. After many years of playing live performances in clubs with just a guitar, she returned to her original love of acting. She studied at Second City and now is training with Upright Citizen’s Brigade. Joy has shown her strength as an actress in several independent films and true to her nature of wanting more creative outlets, she is writing her first small film.
Presently she is shooting more films, networking on red-carpet events, screenings and after parties meeting some of the industry’s finest entertainment pros. Joy knows that acting/entertainment is in her blood.
On her off time she is found on outings with abused kids (teaching them love and compassion) and giving donations to The Los Angels Mission (assisting homeless people getting back on their feet). She has a love for volley ball, water/jet skiing, hiking, and watching football.
